Georgia Judge Will Release Parts of Report on Trump Election Inquiry
On Thursday, the court will release parts of the report, including particular grand jury concerns about witnesses lying under oath.
ATLANTA—
On Monday, a Georgia judge said he would release sections of grand jury findings on election involvement by former President Donald J. Trump and his friends later this week, but he would withhold the jury's recommendations.
Robert C.I. McBurney of Fulton County Superior Court ruled that the special grand jury's report raised suspicions "that several witnesses may have misled under oath during their testimony."
The district attorney's office holds the only copy of the report, which was closely guarded in the eight-page ruling.
For two years, Atlanta prosecutors have investigated whether Mr. Trump and his allies intervened in the 2020 Georgia presidential race, which he narrowly lost to President Biden.
A Georgia special grand jury made charging recommendations after most of the investigation.
The local district attorney, Fani T. Willis, will select what charges to present before a grand jury.
Judge McBurney said he would reveal the introduction, conclusion, and grand jury concerns about witnesses lying under oath on Thursday.
Last month, a group of news organizations petitioned the judge to release the findings.
During the hearing, Ms. Willis said she was "mindful of protecting future defendants' rights" and wanted to keep the grand jury's conclusions secret before prosecuting.
