Manchester United boast a very impressive record when playing at Old Trafford in the final Premier League game of the year.
The Red Devils will round off 2024 with a visit from Newcastle United on Monday evening.
Ruben Amorim has lost three consecutive matches for the first time in his managerial career and he will want to put an abrupt end to his losing streak to end the calendar year on a high.
December has been miserable for Manchester United fans, who have already watched their side lose five times this month. Defeat to Newcastle would match an unwanted record that spans back to Sir Matt Busby’s era.
Marcus Rashford may never play for United again having been left out of four consecutive matchday squads by Amorim. There has been nothing to suggest he will make his return against Newcastle.
Instead, an exit for Rashford looks inevitable in 2025 after he dropped a bombshell interview that he is open to a new challenge.
Man United’s record in final Premier League matches of the year
Exactly 12 months ago today, United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the final game of 2023.
However, that is the only defeat suffered by the Red Devils in the final Premier League match of a calendar year since 2011 when Blackburn Rovers won 3-2 at Old Trafford.
Remarkably, since the start of the Premier League in 1992, United have only lost four of their final matches of the year. They have won 20.
Here are the results from the last 10 games of the calendar year:
- 2014: Tottenham (A) 0-0
- 2015: Chelsea (H) 0-0
- 2016: Middlesbrough (H) 2-1 (Martial, Pogba)
- 2017: Southampton (H) 0-0
- 2018: Bournemouth (H) 4-1 (Pogba 2, Rashford, Lukaku)
- 2019: Burnley (A) 2-0 (Martial, Rashford)
- 2020: Wolves (H) 1-0 (Rashford)
- 2021: Burnley (H) 3-1 (McTominay, Mee og, Ronaldo)
- 2022: Wolves (A) 1-0 (Rashford)
- 2023: Nottingham Forest (A) 1-2 (Rashford)
Marcus Rashford’s incredible goal record in end-of-year matches
The chances are that United will be without Marcus Rashford against Newcastle, and he could end up being a huge miss for the Red Devils.
As the above record shows, Rashford has a superb goal record during the final Premier League matches of each year.
He scored in last year’s 2-1 defeat to Forest and has scored five goals in the last six years.

This season, Rashford has scored seven goals in 24 appearances for United with his latest – and potentially last-ever goal – coming in the 4-0 win over Everton at the start of December.
Reports suggest previous United managers have had problems with Rashford, who has been heavily criticised for his body language and attitude in recent years. It would be a sad end to a very promising career should he leave in January.
