  • President Joe Biden has announced during his State of the Union speech that the United States will build a temporary pier on Gaza’s coastline to allow aid to enter. The plan has been criticised as “not realistic” and a “distraction”.
  • Gaza’s Health Ministry says Israeli army attacks on the enclave have killed 78 people and wounded 104 in the past 24 hours.
  • Israeli army attacks killed at least 11 people and wounded many more in the city of Deir el-Balah.
  • Biden also told Tel Aviv that “protecting and saving innocent lives has to be a priority”.
  • A Hamas delegation has left Cairo with an official of the group saying Israel “thwarted” all attempts by mediators to reach an agreement.
  • At least 30,878 Palestinians have been killed and 72,402 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. The death toll in Israel from Hamas’s October 7 attacks stands at 1,139, and dozens continue to be held captive.
