Eastern Ukraine claimed two British volunteers.

Their families say the men were trying to evacuate Soledar for humanitarian reasons.

According to their relatives, two British volunteers missing in eastern Ukraine were slain while evacuating Soledar.

Andrew Bagshaw, 48, and Christopher Parry, 28, disappeared earlier this month while travelling to Soledar, a salt mining village where Russian and Ukrainian soldiers were battling.

Parry’s family announced through the UK Foreign Office that both men had died.

“It is with great sadness we have to announce that our beloved Chrissy has been killed together with his colleague Andrew Bagshaw during attempting a humanitarian evacuation from Soledar, eastern Ukraine,” the Tuesday statement added.

Ukrainian police reported on January 9 that Bagshaw and Perry had disappeared after leaving Kramatorsk for Soledar on January 6.

Bagshaw’s relatives told Sky News that the two guys died rescuing an elderly woman.

The statement said Parry “found himself lured to Ukraine in March in its darkest hour at the outset of the Russian invasion and assisted those most in need, saving almost 400 lives and many abandoned animals.” It did not specify how the men died.

The British Foreign Office supported the family. New Zealand-born Bagshaw traveled to Ukraine.
